Join the SHIC Lab

We welcome motivated students interested in gaining research experience in human development and family science, psychology, health science, and related fields. We also welcome volunteers, especially those preparing for graduate school or careers in the social and health sciences.

Opportunities for Involvement

Undergraduate Students

  • Assist with literature reviews, data entry/management, transcription, and qualitative coding.

  • Support participant recruitment and study outreach.

  • Attend lab meetings to learn about current research and contribute ideas.

Graduate Students

  • Collaborate on independent and lab projects related to sexuality, relationships, and health.

  • Gain experience in study design, advanced methods, analysis, and dissemination.

  • Work closely with Dr. Wongsomboon to align projects with your training goals.

*Note: Dr. Wongsomboon is still deciding whether to accept graduate students for Fall 2026. Please reach out to inquire if you are interested.

What You’ll Gain

  • Training in mixed-methods research design (quantitative + qualitative)

  • Experience with data analysis and qualitative coding

  • Exposure to experience sampling / daily diary methods

  • Understanding of health disparities research approaches

  • Opportunities for conference presentations and manuscript authorship (as available)

  • Possibility of completing undergraduate honors theses (case-by-case)

What We Look For

  • Curiosity about sexuality, relationships, stigma, and health, especially in adolescence and young adulthood.

  • Passion for research that centers diverse and underrepresented populations and seeks to make meaningful impact.

  • Reliability and professionalism in working with sensitive topics.

  • Good communication skills and strong work ethic.

  • Undergraduates: no prior research experience required.

  • Graduate applicants: evidence of research fit is required.
